CleanSpark Purchases 20,000 New Bitmain Rigs

Bitcoin miner CleanSpark announced that it has purchased 20,000 new Antminer S19j Pro+ units for $43.6 million. The acquisition is expected to boost the company’s computing power by 37% and bring its total number of miners purchased during the bear market to 46,500 units.

Discounted Price Per Terahash

CleanSpark will pay $32.3 million for the machines after applying coupons at a 25% discount or a total price per terahash (TH) of approximately $13.25. This is significantly lower than the current market rate of $15.09 per TH or even lower than the price 12 months ago which was around $90.72 per TH.

More Productive Than Previous Models

The Pro+ rigs are 22% more productive than their previous models and are planned to be delivered in batches between March and May 2021. The model also offers a better return on investment compared to other ASICs of the same generation due to its ability to save 2 joules of energy per terahash compared to the S19j Pro model of the same generation.

Boosting Mining Capacity

CleanSpark is leveraging lowered rig prices in order to boost its mining capacity as Bitcoin’s price rebounds from bear market lows. After being fully operational, these 20,000 rigs are expected to add 2 .44 EH/s (Exa-hash)to CleanSpark’s existing 6 .6 EH/s (Exa-hash)of Bitcoin mining computing power (for a total of 9 EH/s), constituting a 37% increase overall in comparison with what CleanSpark had prior to this purchase announcement..

Conclusion

Overall, CleanSpark’s purchase of 20,000 new Antminer S19j Pro+ units presents an opportunity for them not only increase their mining capacity but also benefit from cost savings and improved returns on investment compared with similar ASIC-generation machines available in the current market conditions..
